β-Lactamase Families
On the basis of amino acid sequences Ambler classified β-Lactamases into four classes (A-D). Among four classes, Class B enzymes are known as metallo-β-lactamases, while enzymes of classes A, C & D are called as serine transferases. Each class is further divided into families on the basis of statistically significant similarities in amino acid sequences, as well as there characteristics like origin of name, hydrolyzing properties toward β-lactam antibiotics, geographical diversity. β-LacFamPred facilitated with ≥5 sequence families information, hyperlinked with their both (Protein/Nucleotide) MSAs, HMMs and sequences.
